Manohar Lal Khattar, the Union Urban and Housing Affairs minister (MoHUA), informed that over 6 lakh homes have been sanctioned under PMAY –U 2.0.
He said the Central Government gave the green flag to more than six lakh homes in 29 States and Union Territories. The allotments are part of the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna –Urban (PMAY-U).
After these many sanctions, the Government will disburse more housing units under PMAY-U, once the signing agreement between other States and UTs is complete.
CM Yogi-Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh received 1.11 lakh homes followed by Maharashtra with 92,000 homes under PMAY U. West Bengal (55,000) and 50,000 each respectively for Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

Following these States, Goa, Sikkim, and Andaman & Nicobar also registered 500-unit sanctions under PMAY-U.
On August 09th, the Central Government set up the scheme’s next stepping stone and its official launching took place on 17th September. Manohar lal Khattar, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs said that a state-level survey will take place and then a number of houses under PMAY-U will be defined for each State and UTs.
PMAY U 2.0 Introduced in August this Year
Earlier in August the Union Cabinet approved the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna-Urban (PMAY) 2.0. Under which financial assistance will be provided to one crore urban poor and middle-class families can build or buy a house at an affordable cost.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the statement, the Government will assist Rs. 2.30 lakh crore under the scheme.
A total of 1.18 crore houses have been sanctioned in the first phase of this affordable housing scheme. While more than 85.5 lakh houses are constructed and delivered to the beneficiaries.
It is major flagship programs of the Central Government which is aimed at providing all-weather ‘pucca’ houses to all eligible candidates in the urban areas.
“In pursuance of the Prime Minister’s vision, PMAY – U 2.0, with an investment of Rs. 10 lakh crore will address the housing needs of one crore families, ensuring that every citizens leads a better quality of life,” the Government in a statement said.
Under the flagship program, families belonging to economically weaker sections. Including LIG and middle-income groups with no pucca house anywhere in the country are primarily eligible.
